Suggested activities and events:

 

Arrive in the late afternoon or evening

 

  • After settling in, head out for dinner, just down the road from us is the Poolville Country Store or ask us about many other fine or casual dining places. After dinner come back to the farm, sit by the campfire – roast marshmallows, make s’mores, or come inside play pool and just relax.

 Day 1:

  • Enjoy a nice breakfast before starting your day; then off to Cooperstown (a short drive - about an hour), with scenic views along the way; where you can enjoy the following sights:

-         Baseball Hall of Fame www.baseballhalloffame.com

-         The Farmers' Museum www.farmersmuseum.com

-         Fenimore Art Museum www.fenimoreartmuseum.org 

-         Wander around the town, and then head back that evening.

-         Stop by Fly Creek on the way to Cooperstown. www.flycreekcidermill.com

 Day 2:

  • Enjoy a nice breakfast before starting your day.  Then head to Hamilton where you can rent bikes www.adventurebikesandboards.com and ride around town, visiting shops along the way.  Don’t forget to stop at Maxwell’s where you can have an ice cream cone or a chocolate!  Have lunch in town at any of the fine places to eat, Colgate Inn, Sushi Blues, Nichols and Beal, Oliveri’s Pizza, or any of the fine establishment’s downtown.    

 OR

  • You can stop by Roger’s Market and get a sack lunch, bring it back to the farm, and have a picnic at the farm wandering out in the pastures on many of the cow trails. That morning or afternoon head to Chittenango Falls, only 20 minutes from Hamilton.

  

Day 3:

  • The Farmers market in Hamilton on Saturday morning, an adventure offering many fine things…. possibly rent a bike on that day and wonder around town.  Go Diamond Mining in Herkimer, at Herkimer Diamond Mining (about an hour from here), that afternoon.  www.herkimerdiamond.com
  • Contact "Talons A bird of prey experience" for an unforgettable experience learning about hawks and falconry.  www.talonsbirdsofprey.com

 

  

      Day 4:

 

  • Stone Quarry Hill Art Park: Located on 100 acres, Stone Quarry Hill Art Park is dedicated to the preservation of the land and to the creation and exhibition of sculpture, inspired by the relationship between art and nature. Beautiful walking trails, changing outdoor sculptures, summer education program, annual pottery fair, and special family events. 10am-5pm daily in Cazenovia.   • Lorenzo: 87 acres historic property with period-furnished museum open to the public; call (315) 655-3200 for more information.

  • While in Cazenovia be sure to stop at Isabella’s a one of a kind boutique you will not want to miss.  Along the way stop in Nelson to shop at Nelson Farm, which offers Pride of NY products which are grown/produced here in New York.  Then stop at The Copper Turret in Morrisville for dinner, which uses local products- produce on their menu.
     

 Things to do at the farm:

  • Collect your own eggs for breakfast
  • Play badminton and other games – we will set them up for you, just ask us.
  • Walk on the cow trails, and bring your sack lunch from Rogers in Hamilton, we have a blanket for your use.
  • Help out with chores if you would like, just mention it.
  • William will take you out in the pasture to visit our cattle.
  • Tour our Double Kiln Hop House – William will do a tour and the history - only one of two left in Madison County, and also part of the Hops Tour put on by Madison County Tourism.
  • Roast marshmallows at the campfire.
  • Relax on the front porch while the children swing on the tire swing.
  • Plus much more for the asking.

 LOCAL EVENTS:

  • Madison-Bouckville Outdoor Antiques Show: Held annually, the third weekend in August in Bouckville, if you can’t make the show there are many antique shops to shop and explore having lunch in any of the fine establishments in the area. http://www.bouckvilleantiqueshows.com  The show this year if you can’t come on that weekend of August 17 & 18, 2008, actually starts the 11th for vendors who set up all over town in Bouckville.
