Central Bull Test
In 1999 Drover Hill Farm started the first Central Bull Test.
Top bull calves from around the country were placed on the 140 day feed test. In
May of 2000 the bulls were sold in a record setting sale. The bull test has
continued, with this the sixth test. Five bulls have gone on from the test to be
National Champions in the show ring and many more have are working in pastures
around the country producing top calves for their owners.
This year there are 14 bulls on the test. Once again the quality
of the bulls is stout, with show and herd sire prospects.
The Central Bull Test ended on a high note when13 bulls and 11 females
were offered for sale on May 11th in Mercer PA. Starting the day was
the high indexing bull Black Watch Cody (AI) consigned by Black Watch Farm,
Weathersfield VT. Cody is a son of a former top indexing bull, SBH Jock of
Springbrook, and had a final index of 108. The bidding was fast and furious for
this great young bull and when the gavel fell a Francis Azur of the Vermont
Highland Cattle Company purchased the bull for a breed record $12,000.
The second high selling bull of the day was Ledyards Glen Grant. This
February 22, 2007 son of Sunset James was consigned by Ledyard Farms in King
Ferry NY. He was the top marbling bull on the test and sold for $6250 to
Ayrshire Farm in Upperville VA.
The next high seller was the second top indexing bull, Zorrow 3rd
of Dundonald, consigned by Dundonald Farm in Three Rivers MI. This bulls was
sired by Zorrow 2nd of Dundonald and is a third generation
performance tested bull. He sold for $5250 to The Vermont Highland Cattle CO.
At the end of the
day 5 bulls sold for over $4000 each and the bulls averaged $3282. Volume buyers
